PROTECTIVE SERVICE OCCUPATIONS

THE CITY OF MOUNT VERNON IS HIRING FULL TIME AND PART TIME POST CERTIFIED OFFICERS

Individuals considered for employment will be responsible for performing routine patrol, responding to emergency calls, enforcing federal, state and local laws, investigating crimes, and participating in community relations programs.

The city offers a competitive salary starting at $34,000 with the city paying life insurance, health insurance and retirement. Officers are provided uniforms, duty and backup weapons, take home care and vacation sick time. Salary is based on work experience and level of education and is negotiable.

Individuals must be able to work a 12 hour shift including on-call status, nights, weekends, holidays, court dates, and overtime.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen

  • Georgia POST Certified Police Officer

  • Posses a valid Georgia driver's license

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED

  • No felony convictions

  • Pass an extensive background investigation and drug testing

  • Position will be opened until filled.

  • Applications are available
